Dagmar Luenser

Dagmar Luenser

As we approach the longest nights of the year, the magical time that in German is called the “hallowed nights”, you are invited to a Winter Solstice Shamanic Sound Healing event with Dagmar.

Dagmar will lead you through a sound journey to help release blocks and discordant energies, restore a sense of wholeness and well-being and connect you with your own inner guidance. Through the sound of her voice, shamanic tools and instruments such as drums, rattles and singing bowls, rituals unfold that awaken your heart’s intelligence and serve as a gateway to transformation and awareness.

Dagmar, who moved to Portland from Germany 7 years ago, is a gifted sound and energy healer. She draws her inspiration not only from her European roots, but from a universal and multidimensional understanding. Through the sound of her voice, shamanic tools and instruments such as drums, rattles and singing bowls, rituals unfold that awaken your heart’s intelligence and serve as a gateway to transformation and awareness.

Todd Williamson

Todd Williamson

Todd’s finally teaching BLIS Yoga at nights, so all of you that love his classes but don’t like to get up early, can now come to this one!

It’s a little longer too, so you can go straight to bed when you get home…

Typically starts with a 20-30 minute guided meditation, breathing, and sounding  followed by some gentle movements to warm up.

Often we’ll stay on the floor for most of the class, but each class is different and we may find ourselves on the bars. We use a lot of props, as they lend and offer support in a wider range of movement possibilities.

Many, if not most of the movements and poses may are different from what you may have learned in more classic hatha and vinyasa style classes.

More at BLIS Yoga.

Stress Relief Fun(d) ~ a fun•drive!

Stress Relief Fun(d) ~ a fun•drive!
Spread the joy, Make a difference

Vittoria & Todd

Vittoria & Todd

OmBase continues to grow with new students joining us weekly, and we’re excited and looking forward to growing our teaching family this fall, as well as adding to our class offerings and new curriculum as we move into our second year… so things are really going well.

However, as we approach our first year anniversary, we are faced with a challenge, and an opportunity to embrace this challenge in a creative way, which can help our growing community to get to know one another better, while helping out OmBase at the same time.

Periodically we have to pay down our note, and even as our day to day and monthly operating expenses are being met, due to the market and other circumstances, our working capital reserve has suddenly been reduced- substantially- by the bank., and we need your help and so insure we can meet the need, and stay afloat! So we’ve come up with this stress relief fun(d) ~ a fun•drive to meet the need, with your help.

Please consider becoming a part of the base in OmBaseone of the pillars in our growing community of support. – Your contribution will help to insure the continuation of that which you are valuing, and extend this gift to others.

Your contribution makes a difference. You make a difference to OmBase and help to make it “om” for all of us. Thank you.

OmBase Tribe

OmBase Tribe

So, what can you do?

Besides continuing to come to classes, and helping to spread the word about OmBasewhich we greatly appreciate…here’s how you can help:

1. You can donate something to the drawing.

You might consider donating a gift certificate for your business (if you are a body worker, healer, or therapist, you might consider donating a session, or three sessions for 50% off. Be creative!)

Can you offer a service?

Hairdressers, accountants, petsitters, photographers, teachers, therapists, landscape designers, architects, artists, translators…You name it, it’s welcome!

We are hoping for donations valued between $80 and $120, as each ticket is worth $100. We are also hoping to receive a few exceptional donations in the $200-$500 range. Anything above $500 will be in the Grand Prize category along with a year of om (12 months of yoga), valued at $1188.

The number of tickets sold, will not exceed the number of gift/prizes donated, (our goal is to reach our target of 200 gifts).

We also want to help to promote you, and what you do, and by donating you will be listed on our website, on our list of “prizes” by category and in exchange for your generous donation, you’ll get more exposure, greatly help out OmBase, and get a new client in the person who draws your gift.

How to donate:

fill out this brief form (we need this information as soon as possible, no later than 10/11/09) and with it, please include a gift certificate or your business card, or both. We’ll add your name and gift to the growing list, (a link to your website will be included)

The growing list of gifts is here.

As a thank-you for your donation you are invited to attend a drop-in class of your choice, for FREE, anytime between the day you make your donation, until the day of the drawing.

2. You can buy a ticket…help OmBase & win a prize!

The number of tickets sold will match the number of gifts donated- the total number not to exceed 200 sold. Odds for winning a prize are 100% while the odds for a specific prize will depend on the total number of tickets sold, but will be no greater then 1 in 200 (good odds :) )

How to buy a ticket: (4 ways you can do that!)

1. Come into the studio and pay with cash, credit card or check

2. Call us at OmBase with your credit card

3. Send a check to OmBase

4. Use our online store
Cash or check is preferred - as it costs us nothing – Credit card at the studio is preferred over online purchases, but please use what is most convenient for you.

The rules of the drawing – how it works

The drawing will be held during our First Year Anniversary Celebration on Sunday 10/18/09. Potluck celebration between 12-4 pm. A detailed schedule will be posted later in October.

There will be two bowls. The first bowl will hold numbered cards – one for each ticket sold. The second bowl will hold a card for each prize. One at a time, a numbered card will be picked at random from the first bowl, and the person on the master list that corresponds to that number will randomly pick a card from the second bowl, to reveal what they’ve won! (Those not present will have a card picked for them).

We thank you in advance for your help!

Yin Series is back!
with Todd

M/W/F- 7/6-7/24
7-8:15 am

Cost: $90-$108 sliding scale

We have reduced the price of this series to make it more accessible to all of you!

Please call or email to sign up. Pre-registration $30

Todd is becoming more passionate about Yin yoga and its incredible benefits, so he’s excited to share another yin yoga series with you this month. And to make this series more enticing for you, I enclose a photo of Todd at the beach in Hawaii that was taken a few years back.

The yin approach utilizes long, supported postures that you simply relax into… when the muscles are relaxed, then the myofascial tissue surrounding them can begin to stretch and also strengthen.

The postures are designed to help you move each joint in its full range of motion through its natural range… this is done through gentle but persistent compression of the joints as one hangs out in, and melts into a stretch, so most of the practice is on the floor, and most of it is passive.

Yin Yoga + Sound Healing is back!
with Jay, Tom & Jen

FRI 5/29
7:15-9:45 pm

Cost: $25 Pre-registration/payment. $30 at the door

singing bowlsThis very popular event is happening once again at Om Base….

An evening of total relaxation and healing resonance. Tom and Jen will bring their orchestra of healing chimes, singing bowls, and didgeridoos and play while we ease into an hour and a half of Yin Yoga followed by an hour-long sound healing in savasana. You are invited to relax and to let the vibrations of the sound waves ease into your body and find their own way to the spots that need it the most.

Yin yoga is a totally restorative form of yoga in which you stay in supported seated or supine poses for a few minutes at a time while all of your body-mind’s holding patterns melt away. It’s perfect for people who are new to yoga and the perfect balance for yang-centered practices.
Please pre-register for this class to get a spot! It tends to fill up.

Dance Om: Solo Dance Journeys
SAT 5/30
7-9 pm

Cost: Sliding scale $8-$18 (pre-register or drop in)

Solo Dance Journeys
Join with others in a safe, welcoming environment to take a free-form movement journey all your own.

Please join us for this evening of inner-discovery, self-expression and creativity through the joy of dance – no experience necessary!

Since this gathering does not include physical contact with others during the dance, the evening starts with brief boundary setting so that we can all stay focused and open to our inner impulses. And then we’re off!

The journey begins with a short guided movement meditation for presence & grounding—and here is where the verbal input ends. Continuous waves of a wide variety of music will usher your body, mind & spirit from the Om Base studio to anywhere your inner-eye will take you.

Taking these solo journeys with others doing the same provides the intention, energy & richness that only a group dance can bring. Attention to boundaries ensures that each of our dances can be an uninterrupted and deeply personal journey.

We end with a closing circle, where speaking is optional.

7:15-8:45 pm

Cost: FREE /donation

drum circle

Our drumming circle is going strong!
Join Mike for a fabulous time!
Bring a drum or favorite instrument or pick one up at the circle.

Drumming can heal the spirit, body, mind, heart and the earth. Together we create “in the moment” connectedness through open spirit and oneness. Wonderful things can occur, elation, release, relief, joy, tears, laughing, giggling, smiling, bonding, heart opening, and sharing.

In addition, drum circles are just plain fun and exhilarating!

Absolutely no drumming or music experience is required – just an open mind and open spirit. Everyone has a heart that beats within them and from this mother rhythm you will be amazed at what we can create together.

If you own a drum or other instrument please bring it, however, there will be a limited number of drums for those that don’t have one. Any and all percussion instruments are welcome, e.g. wood blocks, bells, tambourines, shakers, flutes, whistles, etc.

We encourage you to bring your friends or invite friends who you think may be interested in attending this community drum circle – the more the merrier! We also encourage dancing!!! If you want to come and simply dance or just listen to the rhythms please come as well.

There is no cost for this community event but please feel free to consider a donation.

Hannah demonstrating Yin Yoga
Yin Yoga Series M/W/F
4/3-4/22
7:15-8:15 pm

Cost: 108-$133 sliding scale. Pre-registration.

Todd’s teaching another Yin series this month in the evenings. There are just a few days left before it starts!

The yin approach utilizes long, supported, postures, that you simply relax into… when the muscles are relaxed, then the myofascial tissue surrounding them can begin to stretch and also strengthen.

We spend four or more minutes in each pose… gently exploring the full range of motion of the major joints. The yin practice is a great balance for those who are more active and or athletic, as well as a great practice for those new to yoga.

See the bottom of our Class Descriptions page for more information.

Ecstatic Body Postures
SUN 4/19
4-6 pm

Cost: $25 Pre-registration/payment. $30 at the door.

Analouise Williams, Ph.D.

Analouise Williams, Ph.D.

Dr. Felicitas Goodman, anthropologist, found that holding a posture represented by figurines and statues found in archaeological sites from hunters and gathers and horticulturists worldwide, is a method for achieving ecstatic trance and its attendant visionary experience.

Dr. Goodman introduced Dr. Analouise Williams to this ancient mystical tradition. Dr. Williams, a shamanic practitioner, teacher, and researcher, has studied from other gifted shamanic teachers.

However, when she offers the ecstatic body postures, people experience a different — and often profound — mystical experience.

No previous shamanic journey experience is required. Please wear comfortable clothes, and bring a rattle or drum (optional).

Dance Om is coming!
Solo Dance Journeys
SUN 4/25
7-9 pm

Cost: Sliding scale $8-$18.

Deborah Orandon, MS, NCC, LMT

Deborah Orandon, MS, NCC, LMT

Lead by Deborah Orandon, MS, NCC, LMT. Deborah is the owner of Self Awareness Counseling in Portland, Oregon and the creator of Inner-Awareness Movement (I-AM) Technique.  She has a formal education in counseling, massage and movement and brings diverse life experiences to her work.  Her formal education as well as some of the life experiences that led her to this varied background are discussed on her web page.

Drum Circle
WED 4/29

Cost: $15-$35 sliding scale (cash or checks preferred)

Joseph GoldfedderThis past Sunday we had our first Community Acupuncture at Om Base and it was fabulous.

We’ve decided to repeat it next month….It’s right after Todd’s yoga class on Sun, and you can come to class and stay, or show up for it after the yoga class is over.

Joseph will take some time with each of you and will place needles on your body as you relax deeply on a yoga mat.

Community Acupuncture’s goal is to make acupuncture more affordable and accessible by offering it in a communal setting for a sliding scale ranging $15- 35 a treatment. The idea to combine Yoga and Acupuncture together is to enhance the effects of  both practices.  By integrating the mind and body we enable our bodies a greater healing potential.  Acupuncture assists us by in tapping into our energy reserves, increase our energy flow as well as promoting sense of well being.  Our bodies do the rest.

Joseph Goldfedder, L.Ac., completed his Masters of Science in Oriental Medicine from Southwest Acupuncture College in New Mexico in 2006.  He initially moved to Portland to co-found Brooklyn Community Acupuncture. In his practice he believes in the integration of art and medicine, creativity and spirit.

Welcome to Om Base

The studio’s Grand Opening party was….Oct 18th, 2008

Thank you all for coming to the opening and participating in our new adventure! It certainly seems to be an exciting one!

We want to take the opportunity here to thank several of you without whom OmBase wouldn’t look the way it does!

Joanne Hogarth, our architect/designer, enjoyed the process with us every step of the way. All the colors on the walls? Yes, she picked them.

Carol Hall designed the glass windows in the bathroom. Carol is one of our students and a famous glass maker in Portland. She kindly created and donated her creation!

Rey Rivas and his crew put their hearts and souls into this project and made it their own. They worked long hours and were always laughing and full of positive energy. Rey was the one who thought of creating the first arch. We then replicated them in our areas of the studio and love the effect.

Kris Jones, from Red Door Design, traded so much of her time to the creation of the logo, the promotional material, and much more!  We owe her about 20 years of yoga!  Thank you Kris, we love your work!

Also, thanks to all of you that called, emailed, brought coupons for paint, helped us move, and thought about us during the summer and into the fall!

Free: Discover Yoga! + Free Class card

statuehandWe offer Discover Yoga!  classes once or twice a month for those who have never done yoga or who haven’t done it in awhile. This class is an introduction to our studio, our kind of yoga, and helps each person figure out which class to choose afterward.
