rainbow's end
There are a lot of changes in the air
at OmBase scheduled for April!
Some teachers change days/times,
and we say goodbye to one of our long-standing teachers…..
Plus Todd has his first Yoga Immersion in months,
as well as a new class on Tuesday night.

Yoga Immersion
with Todd
4/5-4/23 every weekday 6:30-8 am
Cost: $150-180 sliding scale/pre-registration

Todd Williamson
This is a chance to gather and practice three-five sessions a week. These healing immersions focus on healing and balance through visualization, meditation and yoga asanas. It’s easier to do this “work” around others who are making the same choices… so take advantage of the others’ presence (presents) and join in.
This is the year for change. (the year of the Tiger). The change is happening, and we’re all immersed in it – you’re immersed in it - Spending just a bit of time with others who, like you, are curious about, and more consciously choosing for – uncovering and discovering – something new – a new way of being - will afford you an ease now, during these times which otherwise may seem daunting and fraught with overwhelming challenges.
In allowing yourself to be supported, you invariably align with, and tune into your Self, and so find yourself supported by the very change you felt at odds with… Open to the magic…
You can find out more about Immersion here.
Please call OmBase, or email Todd/OmBase if you want to sign up.
Decision to hold immersion will be made several days prior to start date, so don’t wait till last moment to let us know!

Yin Yoga at night!
with Todd
TUE 7:30-9 pm, every Tue in April
Cost: drop in donation class

Yin Yoga
Todd will be teaching a yin yoga class every Tuesday in April. You can arrive like to any other classes, and either use your class card or pay a donation.
Come explore what Yin Yoga is all about. Whether you are new to yoga in general, or a seasoned yogi, this is a class you’ll get a lot from.
One of the interesting things about the yin approach is that it benefits the more active person (runner, biker, etc) as well as the less active person (couch potato).

Saying goodbye to Jay….

Jay Fields
Most of you know Jay. She’s been with us from the very beginning of the start of OmBase, and we have known her long before that. She has always been committed to being a part of our family.
Jay is moving on, and she will not be teaching classes at OmBase, but we know we will see her again…
Please join us in wishing Jay the very best in her new endeavors!
Jay has a beautiful new website, and a blog, always worth reading!
www.revelationaryliving.com
Dear friends,
Thank you so very much for being a part of my journey of learning and teaching at OmBase. It’s hard to leave because I will miss the family I have at OmBase, but the “nest,” as it were, has served its purpose–I’m now ready to fly in to new ways of being that are most in alignment with who I am in my work and life now. I feel quite joyful to let go and let myself be taken by the flow of things, which right now means having more time for my private spiritual counseling practice, for workshops, and for writing. Feel free to visit my new website to see what I’m up to…
And I trust that part of the journey is to stay connected to Om as a student, friend, and collaborator. Until that mystery unveils itself…
Much love,
Jay

Enlighten Up!
Movie Night!
Yes, we’ll be having a night every month set aside for a movie which we’ll be showing projected on the large wall of the yoga studio!
When: SAT 4/10 @ 7pm
What: Enlighten Up!!
(
very appropriate as it’s about yoga).
You can go
here for a link to a trailer.
We’ll accept a small donation if you like, and will donate to a local cause…
Sorry, no kids and no snacks….
We love to hear from you!

Your Yoga Story
We want your feedback!
We want to hear what yoga
has done for you,
how it’s changed your life.
It’s a place for YOUR comments…
We want to hear what you have to say!
Send us your stories (long and short) about how yoga & OmBase or a specific teacher has helped you improve your life, healed your body, quieted your mind, and whatever else!
We’ll post the long stories on our blog, to inspire others.
“Your deep stretch class is helping me a lot. I definitely want to come the whole month of August. I’m not taking a vacation this summer. Taking your class is like a mini vacation for me every Monday evening! You and Todd have cultivated a very peaceful and positive environment at your studio“.~ Don
“We’ve both really been enjoying your class and the benefits are already apparent. R. saw his neurologist yesterday and he told us that he could see a noticeable difference in R.’s stance and balance since he saw him 6 months ago. Really good news! Thank you for helping that happen”. ~ B.

Come to class! & let us know what you’d like….

Spring Daisies
Finally, a note from all of us here at OmBase…we need your support now.
We know how much you love the studio, and if you haven’t come to class in a few weeks or more and you’re still reading this, obviously you want to be part of our community.
Please help us spread the word, come to class! We can’t be here without your assistance and participation.
Also, if there are times/classes that you would like, please let us know.
We’re extending our blessings to you for
a beautiful, warm and happy spring!

Adriana
Discover the ancient art of bellydance with Adriana, a light-hearted & thoughtful dance artist and instructor with over 15 years experience. Adriana offers a holistic approach that gives freedom to express your own personal flow of creativity from within.
Bellydance is a great form of exercise for women of all ages, shapes & sizes! You can develop body awareness, grace, balance, strength, & fluidity and embrace your Divine Beauty. It’s a natural complement to a woman’s bone and muscle structure with movements coming mainly from the torso. You will learn how to isolate different parts of the body, moving them independently as well as layering movements in fluid patterns and in quick short accents, weaving together the entire feminine essence, and using the movements as a form of creative expression.

Did you miss Todd’s meditation?
You can hear it here!

Todd Williamson
New Show: Free Range Meditation
Weekdays at 8AM
PDX.FM Channel Two
Hosted by Todd Williamson
You can now hear Todd’s meditations, recorded during class.
“When I close my eyes, I see my childhood in Africa; wild animals, blankets of stars, clear waters full of fish, and me, lying in the arms of a tree swaying gently in the breeze. Nature caught me in her grip early, and the feeling was unmistakable. In later years, when I found myself in more urban settings, I was always looking for ways to find that same feeling – the vastness, the embrace, the unmistakable feeling of being a part of it. It was yoga and meditation that took me there. With each 30 minute session that we share, I hope that I can help you find your own sanctuary amidst the rapid movement of life. There are stars, wild animals and tall trees in our own everyday world. It is my goal to help you sway in the breeze.” ~ Todd Williamson

Our new classes this past month did fabulously well, surely in part because of our $5 drop in offer. We know many of you will keep coming back to OmBase to continue taking those classes and others as well!

Then you are invited to tone together as a group, where you are encouraged to use your voice and let sounds come through you.
Toning is the elongation of a note or tone using breath and voice. It is an active vocal healing meditation that can help you re-discover your authentic voice, reduce stress, restore balance and connect you with the deeper rhythms and vibrations of your being. No singing experience is required.

Dagmar is a gifted sound and energy healer with a private practice in SW Portland. Trained in shamanic work, sound healing, Spiritual Response Therapy and Reiki, she helps individuals come into balance and connect more deeply to their soul’s path.

February’s $5 class
Blisyoga
with Todd
WED 7:15 pm
We have decided to offer the $5 drop in class every month for a while!

Todd Williamson
Take advantage of this month’s class: Wednesday’s Blisyoga with Todd every Wed at 7:15 pm.
About Blisyoga:
Typically starts with a 20-30 minute guided meditation, breathing, and sounding followed by some gentle movements to warm up.
Often we’ll stay on the floor for most of the class, but each class is different and we may find ourselves on the bars. We use a lot of props, as they lend and offer support in a wider range of movement possibilities.
Many, if not most of the movements and poses may are different from what you may have learned in more classic hatha and vinyasa style classes.
- Mixed levels
For more on BLIS Yoga, please see our class descriptions. More at BLIS Yoga.

Annie Meyer‘s art
NOW at OmBase

Annie Meyer
You can see Annie Meyer’s art hanging at our studio now!
Annie is a local artist Todd and I found a few years back and we love her art!
From Annie:
“I consider myself a painter, but work in 3 different mediums: Painting (primarily oil and acrylic paintings), monotype prints, and ceramic tiles. Essentially my work is the same theme, but expressed differently due to the difference in mediums. My subject manner is the human figure, and abstract French Landscapes. I have been drawing the figure since high school, and I work directly from a live model.
All of my work is original. I have no reproductions.”
Everything that is hanging at OmBase is for sale, so ask the front desk for more info, or check out Annie’s website.

Calling all old calendars…

Megan Hooker
Have you seen Megan’s work at OmBase? She makes lovely recycled cards out of calendars!
What better way to recycle your calendar? Knowing that somebody, somewhere, is receiving the image you’ve looked at for months….
If you still have a 2009 calendar (or older!) that you have no use for, please bring it to OmBase and we’ll get it to Megan.
Favorites are nature, pets, scenery of any kind.

BEING LATE FOR CLASS . . .

Be on time for Yoga!
Every once in a while we’d like to remind our students about not coming to class late.
Entering the yoga room at the beginning of a class when there is a meditation going on is disrupting for most of the students.
So if you are more than just 5 minutes late, and the meditation has started, please wait in the reception until the meditation portion is over, and then enter QUIETLY.
If the class has just started, you can enter quietly and sit or lie down close to the door – like on the little carpet by the fire, or just close to the door, so as to disturb as little as possible.
Please wait to set up your mat and get your props until after the meditation is over.
We appreciate your understanding ….. Namasté

Todd Cutting Cake at the 1st year Anniversary Party
Thanks to You!

We want to thank everyone who contributed wonderful prizes and to those who bought tickets, as well as to those that came and contributed to our Fun Drive with generous gifts and their commitment to OmBase this past month, and indeed, this past year! We’re grateful to have such dedicated and generous students that support and are a part of OmBase! Here’s to many more years!

Thanksgiving Day Class
Fund raiser for Fences For Fido
with Todd
THU 11/26 10-11:45 am
Cost: Please join us and use your class card or leave a cash/check donation. Thank you!

. . . UN-CHAINED . . . one dog at a time
We discovered this organization just a short time ago, wrote about it in our blog, and we want to support them. Fences For Fido builds fences for chained dogs, and not only provides freedom and a completely different (happier!) lifestyle for dogs; they also pay to have the dogs spayed and neutered, as well as build shelter when needed.
Our proceedings on Thanksgiving Day are going to this Portland based, non-profit, all-volunteer company.
Fences For Fido is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the welfare and quality of life for dogs living outdoors. Through their volunteer efforts, they create safer and improved conditions for chained dogs, provide education to the public, and help build healthier communities through awareness and compassion.
For dogs living outdoors on a chain, Fences For Fido reaches out to their guardian and offers a free fence, a new shelter, and free or reduced cost spay/neuter. With their services, dogs who were once chained will learn what it’s like to live, run, and play in a safe and more comfortable environment.

Don’t forget to bring your MAT to class!
We want to remind you starting on 11/1 you will need to own your own mat, as we will not have mats to use at the studio.
We will only offer mats for sale from now on.
Please read the signs posted at the studio to find out more.

yoga mats
The mat lottery is happening this Sun 10/25 after Todd’s class. If you want a lovingly used mat for $20 you can put your name down anytime prior to that (we have a sheet at the front desk). About 10 of those mats will be sold. The names will be picked this Sun, but the old mats will be sold on 11/1, to give everyone a chance to buy a mat.
We also have new mats for sale (from $44 up), you can also go to other places in town to purchase a mat or purchase one online. If you have some questions feel free to call us at the studio. We’ll be happy to answer them.
Please know that mats come in all different sizes and textures, and we have looked at most of the ones on the market. We carry only ECO mats, or ‘natural’ mats, which have no PVC and decompose faster. (better for you and the environment)
We also are an official mat recycling drop off point, so you can bring your own worn out mat to us instead of throwing it out.

Freestyle Yoga
with Jay
Tuesdays & Thursdays 6pm

Jay Fields - free-range
Jay’s back!
She’s teaching ongoing classes (Freestyle Yoga) on Tuesdays & Thursdays at 6pm as she has been for the past year (except when she was on her sabbatical this summer).
For the ones of you that are new and haven’t experienced her classes, Jay is one of a kind teacher, and her classes will always inspire you to come back for more.
Though based in a vinyasa practice, Freestyle Yoga is not limited by any labels. The intention of Freestyle Yoga is to honor the practice as it ebbs and flows day by day—balancing fluid vinyasa with restorative yin, movement with seated meditation. The class content will evolve based on who arrives, with the common thread throughout being the focus on learning the principles of listening to the body to find a deep connection with Self and with one’s own yoga.

Yin Yoga series
with Todd
M/W/F am OR pm
3 week series
MON 11/2 to FRI 11/20
Cost: Yin Yoga 7-8:15 am $90-$108 sliding scale
::::: Yoga Immersion 7:15-8:45 pm $111-$144 sliding scale

Yin Yoga
The Yin Yoga series and the Yoga Immersion are both back in November. This is the last time before the new year you’ll have a chance to take either of these offerings. Both start and end on the same day.
The immersion is a chance to gather and practice three sessions per week.
Class focuses on healing and balance through visualization, meditation and yoga asanas. This immersion is an opportunity for you to simply immerse yourself in what it is you are practicing. As you do this, what you are practicing becomes more evident, and it may surprise you! The elements of the practice remain essentially the same: getting centered, engaging our curiosity, and listening.
Why not learn the tools to uncover your innate state? Why not find the inherent balance that is in you? When you find your inspiration…. discipline is no longer necessary.
no pre-requisites required… although you may want to drop into at least a few of the BLIS Yoga classes before hand, to get a glimpse of what we’ll be “doing.”
Let us know if you want to sign up by emailing us at OmBase (findpeace@ombase.org).

For more information please go to our OmBase schedule page.

Belly Dancing starts Next Saturday!
Shakti Flow! Egyptian Inspired Bellydance
with Adriana
Saturdays 10/31-12/5 :: 12-1:15 pm class series
Cost: $66 for 6-week class series. Pre-registration required.

Adriana
Join Adriana for a class series for beginner belly dancers! All welcome!
Traditional Egyptian bellydance is known as ‘Raks Sharqi’ in the Middle East. Its subtle nuances, refined movements, feminine grace and beauty characterize this style. It is very expressive in nature and traditionally performed as a solo and improvised dance.
With ancient roots in fertility rites and goddess worship, it has deep spiritual significance for women and has undergone many cultural migrations; an ever-changing and evolving art.
Bellydance is a great form of exercise for women of all ages, shapes and sizes.
Develop body awareness, grace, balance, strength & fluidity and embrace your Divine Beauty.
We will explore classic bellydance movements in a free-form style within a sacred dance circle. Learn proper technique of the foundation movements including isolations, shimmies, figure 8s, hip circles & more.
Express yourself in a safe, non-judgmental environment where you can release tension, love your body, free your inhibitions and feel you own sacredness. No experience required.
Wear loose, comfortable clothing and feel free to wear hip-scarves, veils & skirts.
Call or email (findpeace@ombase.org) to sign up!

Stress Relief Fun(d) ~ a fun•drive!
Spread the joy, Make a difference

Vittoria & Todd
OmBase continues to grow with new students joining us weekly, and we’re excited and looking forward to growing our teaching family this fall, as well as adding to our class offerings and new curriculum as we move into our second year… so things are really going well.
However, as we approach our first year anniversary, we are faced with a challenge, and an opportunity to embrace this challenge in a creative way, which can help our growing community to get to know one another better, while helping out OmBase at the same time.
Periodically we have to pay down our note, and even as our day to day and monthly operating expenses are being met, due to the market and other circumstances, our working capital reserve has suddenly been reduced- substantially- by the bank., and we need your help and so insure we can meet the need, and stay afloat! So we’ve come up with this stress relief fun(d) ~ a fun•drive to meet the need, with your help.
Please consider becoming a part of the base in OmBase – one of the pillars in our growing community of support. – Your contribution will help to insure the continuation of that which you are valuing, and extend this gift to others.
Your contribution makes a difference. You make a difference to OmBase and help to make it “om” for all of us. Thank you.

OmBase Tribe
So, what can you do?
Besides continuing to come to classes, and helping to spread the word about OmBase – which we greatly appreciate…here’s how you can help:
1. You can donate something to the drawing.
You might consider donating a gift certificate for your business (if you are a body worker, healer, or therapist, you might consider donating a session, or three sessions for 50% off. Be creative!)
Can you offer a service?
Hairdressers, accountants, petsitters, photographers, teachers, therapists, landscape designers, architects, artists, translators…You name it, it’s welcome!
We are hoping for donations valued between $80 and $120, as each ticket is worth $100. We are also hoping to receive a few exceptional donations in the $200-$500 range. Anything above $500 will be in the Grand Prize category along with a year of om (12 months of yoga), valued at $1188.
The number of tickets sold, will not exceed the number of gift/prizes donated, (our goal is to reach our target of 200 gifts).
We also want to help to promote you, and what you do, and by donating you will be listed on our website, on our list of “prizes” by category and in exchange for your generous donation, you’ll get more exposure, greatly help out OmBase, and get a new client in the person who draws your gift.
• How to donate:
– fill out this brief form (we need this information as soon as possible, no later than 10/11/09) and with it, please include a gift certificate or your business card, or both. We’ll add your name and gift to the growing list, (a link to your website will be included)
The growing list of gifts is here.
As a thank-you for your donation you are invited to attend a drop-in class of your choice, for FREE, anytime between the day you make your donation, until the day of the drawing.
2. You can buy a ticket…help OmBase & win a prize!
The number of tickets sold will match the number of gifts donated- the total number not to exceed 200 sold. Odds for winning a prize are 100% while the odds for a specific prize will depend on the total number of tickets sold, but will be no greater then 1 in 200 (good odds
)
• How to buy a ticket: (4 ways you can do that!)
1. Come into the studio and pay with cash, credit card or check
2. Call us at OmBase with your credit card
3. Send a check to OmBase
4. Use our online store
Cash or check is preferred - as it costs us nothing – Credit card at the studio is preferred over online purchases, but please use what is most convenient for you.
The rules of the drawing – how it works
The drawing will be held during our First Year Anniversary Celebration on Sunday 10/18/09. Potluck celebration between 12-4 pm. A detailed schedule will be posted later in October.
There will be two bowls. The first bowl will hold numbered cards – one for each ticket sold. The second bowl will hold a card for each prize. One at a time, a numbered card will be picked at random from the first bowl, and the person on the master list that corresponds to that number will randomly pick a card from the second bowl, to reveal what they’ve won! (Those not present will have a card picked for them).
We thank you in advance for your help!

We’ll start with a short meditation, a short opening, and as we proceed you have the chance to move in the direction you are being moved, and we’ll all be practicing the same thing, even though it may not always look like it. Louise Lorente
A restorative yoga class offered weekly now by popular demand!
Students learn how nurturing, physical postures help ease the effects of chronic stress by allowing the body and mind to rest deeply.
We use props such as blankets and bolsters, breath work, guided meditation and a series of 3-4 poses which allow for complete relaxation.
Restorative poses help the body to tap into the body’s innate wisdom, and the body’s capacity to heal itself.
Appropriate for anyone at anytime in their life.
What students are saying:
“I was able to take the feeling of peace through most of my week….”.
“I felt so open and calm for a long time after class…”
“…..My phlebitis, which I’ve been taking medication for, getting massages for, completely went away”.
“I will pay a babysitter once a week to come to this class!”

The Yo Yo Yogis, as described on their About Us page “are two people-huggin’, life-lovin’, chance-takin’, free-stylin’ yogis who live just off center” who decided “they would be the road-trippin’, life-explorin’, path- showin’ guides setting out on a most excellent adventure to uncover the “not to miss” Yoga Studios on the West Coast!
During their Summer 2009 Roadtrip “100 studios in 100 days – Seattle to San Diego” they stopped by OmBase on Day 21 and wrote up a little review of their experience!

Day 21 – OmBase – Organic Free Range Yoga – Hillsdale
July 6th, 2009 | Author: Yo Yo Yogis

OmBase Studio
As we stepped our yogi toes inside the walls of Hillsdale’s sensory yoga experience, OmBase, we knew our two hour, donation based BLIS class had already begun. Welcomed into the newly opened visceral space that seem to breathe from the energy that created it, we melted into the imagination of owners Todd Williamson and Vittoria Palazzi. Warm hickory floors, reclaimed timber from old-growth forest, massive beamed ceilings and a rainbow of color, grounded our yogi souls and made an inspiring visual backdrop for the imaginative artwork, light fixtures and stained glass created by the ultra-talented community of yogis lucky enough to call this soul enrichin’ studio… “OM”.

Todd & Vittoria
Feelin’ one of those peace-providin’ practices comin’ on… The YoYos just “let go” as Todd, our experienced guide began his, “pretty sure this is about as blissed out as we’ve ever been” mediation with soothing words and soft rhythm that made thirty minutes fly by in a flash. He then slowly warmed up the body and mind for original, artistically inspired poses done with a strap laced through a secured recessed bar that opened our shoulders, hips and hearts, challenging the YoYos to trust their intuitive leader, and themselves. This day…the YoYos were feelin’ the BLIS!

Sun-Shinnin' - Day Cannon Beach
Floatin’ out of the studio…we heard the ocean callin’ as we set off on a most excellent adventure at the jaw-droppin’, Canon Beach; land of endless stretches of white sand, Gi-normous rocks jutting out of the everlastingly sea, historic beach cottages, runners, walkers, bikers, and shiny happy people holdin’ hands.
Hurricane wind blowin’, Ru’s furry feet flyin’, the freezin’ tank top wearin’ YoYo’s were goin’ to have a gritty good time on the beach today! Wrapped in a wet blanket with the full grown YoYo child and the Ru (the wise, kind old grandfather- even he’s freezing with fur) cocker spaniel; here we all were, havin’ a super-fun picnic at the shore. Munchin’ on our most disgustin’ sand laden lunch proudly packed by the “not too good in the kitchen” YoYoMan, we counted our blessings as the blowing sand pitted our smilin’ faces letting us know we were alive…and it was good!

News from OmBase – April 1st Edition
Thursday, April 1st, 2010rainbow's end

Spring Daisies
Finally, a note from all of us here at OmBase…we need your support now.
We know how much you love the studio, and if you haven’t come to class in a few weeks or more and you’re still reading this, obviously you want to be part of our community.
