Hannah demonstrating Yin Yoga
Yin Yoga Series M/W/F
4/3-4/22
7:15-8:15 pm

Cost: 108-$133 sliding scale. Pre-registration.

Todd’s teaching another Yin series this month in the evenings. There are just a few days left before it starts!

The yin approach utilizes long, supported, postures, that you simply relax into… when the muscles are relaxed, then the myofascial tissue surrounding them can begin to stretch and also strengthen.

We spend four or more minutes in each pose… gently exploring the full range of motion of the major joints. The yin practice is a great balance for those who are more active and or athletic, as well as a great practice for those new to yoga.

See the bottom of our Class Descriptions page for more information.

Ecstatic Body Postures
SUN 4/19
4-6 pm

Cost: $25 Pre-registration/payment. $30 at the door.

Analouise Williams, Ph.D.

Analouise Williams, Ph.D.

Dr. Felicitas Goodman, anthropologist, found that holding a posture represented by figurines and statues found in archaeological sites from hunters and gathers and horticulturists worldwide, is a method for achieving ecstatic trance and its attendant visionary experience.

Dr. Goodman introduced Dr. Analouise Williams to this ancient mystical tradition. Dr. Williams, a shamanic practitioner, teacher, and researcher, has studied from other gifted shamanic teachers.

However, when she offers the ecstatic body postures, people experience a different — and often profound — mystical experience.

No previous shamanic journey experience is required. Please wear comfortable clothes, and bring a rattle or drum (optional).

Dance Om is coming!
Solo Dance Journeys
SUN 4/25
7-9 pm

Cost: Sliding scale $8-$18.

Deborah Orandon, MS, NCC, LMT

Deborah Orandon, MS, NCC, LMT

Join with others in a safe, welcoming environment to take a free-form movement journey all your own.

Please join us for this evening of inner-discovery, self-expression and creativity through the joy of dance – no experience necessary!

Since this gathering does not include physical contact with others during the dance, the evening starts with brief boundary setting so that we can all stay focused and open to our inner impulses. And then we’re off!

The journey begins with a short guided movement meditation for presence & grounding—and here is where the verbal input ends. Continuous waves of a wide variety of music will usher your body, mind & spirit from the Om Base studio to anywhere your inner-eye will take you.

Taking these solo journeys with others doing the same provides the intention, energy & richness that only a group dance can bring. Attention to boundaries ensures that each of our dances can be an uninterrupted and deeply personal journey.

We end with a closing circle, where speaking is optional.

Lead by Deborah Orandon, MS, NCC, LMT. Deborah is the owner of Self Awareness Counseling in Portland, Oregon and the creator of Inner-Awareness Movement (I-AM) Technique.  She has a formal education in counseling, massage and movement and brings diverse life experiences to her work.  Her formal education as well as some of the life experiences that led her to this varied background are discussed on her web page.

7:15-8:45 pm

Cost: FREE /donation

drum circle

Our drumming circle is going strong!
Join Mike for a fabulous time!
Bring a drum or favorite instrument or pick one up at the circle.

Drumming can heal the spirit, body, mind, heart and the earth. Together we create “in the moment” connectedness through open spirit and oneness. Wonderful things can occur, elation, release, relief, joy, tears, laughing, giggling, smiling, bonding, heart opening, and sharing.

In addition, drum circles are just plain fun and exhilarating!

Absolutely no drumming or music experience is required – just an open mind and open spirit. Everyone has a heart that beats within them and from this mother rhythm you will be amazed at what we can create together.

If you own a drum or other instrument please bring it, however, there will be a limited number of drums for those that don’t have one. Any and all percussion instruments are welcome, e.g. wood blocks, bells, tambourines, shakers, flutes, whistles, etc.

We encourage you to bring your friends or invite friends who you think may be interested in attending this community drum circle – the more the merrier! We also encourage dancing!!! If you want to come and simply dance or just listen to the rhythms please come as well.

Joseph GoldfedderThis past Sunday we had our first Community Acupuncture at Om Base and it was fabulous.

We’ve decided to repeat it next month….It’s right after Todd’s yoga class on Sun, and you can come to class and stay, or show up for it after the yoga class is over.

Community Acupuncture’s goal is to make acupuncture more affordable and accessible by offering it in a communal setting for a sliding scale ranging $15- 35 a treatment. OmBase Studio

We have so many exciting events happening at Om Base in February!

New Class! Kundalini Yoga

Alana Weintraub Please welcome Alana Weintraub, who will be teaching a Kundalini Yoga class on Fridays, 9:30-11 am, starting Jan 30.

Alana began practicing yoga fifteen years ago as a young teenager, and during college, heard the spiritual call to become a yoga teacher while attending her first of five Kundalini Yoga retreats.  She received Kundalini Yoga teaching certification at the Omega Institute in upstate NY, furthered her teacher training by studying Radiant Child Yoga with Shakta Kaur, and has been teaching to adults and children in Portland since 2006.  In addition to sharing her passion for yoga, she is currently training to be a Waldorf Teacher.

Kundalini yoga classes are a unique and dynamic blend of postures, pranayam (breathwork), mantra, music and meditation, which allow you to deeply experience relaxation, self-healing and elevation.  Stimulating all of your body’s physical and energetic systems, Kundalini yoga revitalizes, de-stresses, and heightens your creative potential. Mixed levels.

Alana will also be teaching our kids and teens yoga classes & workshops, coming up in March….Let us know if you are interested in that!

Yin is in!  …..  3 week series with Todd

Yin Yoga is a term coined by Sarah Powers and popularized most notably by Paul Grilley. Basically, it is an approach to using yoga to counter some of what the Taoist believe tends to happen with many of us as we age, namely that from the waist down we tend to get tighter and tighter, and from the waist up we tend to grow weaker…

The yin approach utilizes long, supported, postures, that you simply relax into… when the muscles are relaxed, then the myofascial tissue surrounding them can begin to stretch and also strengthen. The postures are designed to help you move each joint in its full range of motion through its natural range… this is done through gentle but persistent compression of the joints as one hangs out in, and melts into a stretch, so most of the practice is on the floor, and most of it is passive.

Yin Yoga is ideal as a complementary practice for students that practice a more ‘yang’ style yoga, as well as for athletes that don’t stretch as much as they would like to. It’s beneficial for those people that think yoga isn’t for them as they are “too tight”, or inflexible. Also, for those that have chronic back pain, and other aches and pains.

I found that this practice yields surprising results if it is practiced more frequently, but regularly…so this yin series will be offered periodically, between immersion offerings, three days a week, for an hour each session“.  ~ Todd

Soul-stice Dance Journey/Jay & Felix
SAT December 20
7-9:30 pm

Cost: $10-$20 suggested offering

15Out of the darkness comes the light, out of the stillness, the dance…

For many world cultures, the Solstice is the true new year as the ritual marker to truly let go, honor and bring closure to the past year and ignite our deepest visions and intentions for the coming year as the light emerges.

As our own part of nature, our bodies are intimately connected with the solar rhythm, so an embodied ritual offers us a powerful opportunity to align and be in harmony with the greater flow. While the outer world moves in a holiday flurry, this dance ritual allows you to dive into the deeper rhythm of inner renewal, of finding lightness in your own experience.

No previous dance experience is necessary, just a willingness to allow yourself to be moved by the music.

We will begin with silent meditation, and from the stillness let the dance emerge. We will then come back to stillness and reconnect with a collective candle-lighting ceremony to welcome back the light.

Hosted by Jay Fields and Felix Roth. Please let us know if you’d like to come! We want to make sure there’s space for everyone…..
